Xylose

Xylose is important for cell-cell communication and also acts as an antibacterial and antifungal. Manufacturers often substitute xylose for sugar (table sugar) in chewing gum and toothpaste. Research findings indicate that xylose may help prevent cancer of the digestive tract and it has been shown that xylose absorption is decreased in some patients with intestinal disorders, including colitis.
